November 10,2007

Well its been a long 2 weeks, my last posting was on October 27,2007 I havent posted since then because that day i got the news my 16yrold nephew died, I took a week and went to Fla to be with my brother. Spent a long week there, People take every day for granted,,through all this I have learnt, you never know when yesterday could be your last tomorrow.I think I have gotten everything done and back in order since I have been back.
Its now time to clean up the yard and put away farm implements that wont be needed this winter, we have already had snow. Nothing that has stayed, but it wont be long, While I was gone we had another liter of piglets. Rob didn thave a good time, she started having babies in pasture. By time all was said and done she now is in the barn with only 2 piglets.
We help slaughter and dress 3 of the neighbors pigs yesterday. Bought home the livers and hearts. Butcher will save all the leaf lard the customers dont want for me. I will render it down for use all year.
Today we are going to go get lumber to make more slatted floors for the sows to come in and farrow on.
We had to bury a family dog Thursday, he was 11 1/2 yrs old very sad, He was Rob's dog from 8 weeks old, so that was especially tough on him.
Well I guess its time to get this family up and moving, it may be Saturday but chores need to be done and work is waiting.
I am glad you stopped by and visited with us, even if its in a cyber way.

Smile at some one new every day you could be the one to get blessed.

Saturday October 27,2007

Well its Saturday, sitting looking out window, its rainy, only 50 degrees out with a bit of a chill to it. Not much going on out side other than chores today I dont believe. Inside its nice wood stove going, theres a chocolate cake in oven, apple pie and biscuits have already come out, baking beans and ham for supper. The smells are wonderful
Do believe it will be a easy day as far as farm work goes, boys are doing their own thing, Rob is half sleeping half watching some show on TV which isnt making any sense to me. So when cake come s ut of oven I am headed to go finish setting up sewing room.
We were hoping to go bush hog and cut some wood in Campton today, a job we got hired to do, but looks like rain most of weekend I think.
Hope your weekend goes as great as you would like, Have a great one.
Good Bless, smile you might be the one to get Blessed

October 23,2007 Fall Day

As the sun comes up over the mountain what wonderful colors from the sun coming through the clouds. Sitting here watching the sky and on the ground watching the rabbits jumping and twisting around, when it comes to my rabbits I love to watch them, especially when the new babies first start coming out,
Today is going to be another busy one. The weather right now is great for working out side so trying to get more wood cut, worked yesterday for several hours cutting the road out for the tractor to get through with out getting slapped in the face with branches, those hurt.
Have to go do chores, milk the cows, feed all the pigs. Need to make another pen for a new moma who needs to come in thebarn.

Grand daughter is coming over today after school so we'll get to do some fun stuff, she is 9 and loves to help do anything and everything.
Headed to town this morning to talk to a store about their produce, that is out of date for the pigs.
Have to stack a cord of wood and clean rental house today.
Then get to work here, going back in woods and cut a couple cords of wood, need to make a bunch of phone calls concerning selling meat, want to get all paper work out of the way, before we get that part of the farm going.

Started working on a jar quilt yesterday , checking out the material needed, I love the looks of it, I see one on aweb site a lady had done, it was really great.
Ok have to get busy, the sun is out and the day is wasting away.

Sunday- October 21,2007

Its Sunday morning, the sun is shinng very bright. Looks like it is going to be a nice day out. Testerday we had some heavy rain all of a sudden. It lastest about 20 minutes, then the most beautiful double rainbows came out,, so bright rich colors.
Today is clean up day, Rob did alot of bull dozing yesterday, we have a big pile of rocks right now, that need to find new homes. Today we have to clean out the pig barns and pens and the cow barn. Wont take long we stay up on the cleaning every day, but today will be the wash down of cob webs, and scrubbing out pens. Scrubbing all the feed dishes and water dishes.
After that its off to the big city,LOL anything past us is big. Have to go to Home Depot as much as I hate to and buy some more garbage barrells, We have used all our new ones at the stores and shops that give us their left overs now we need to buy more so we can have some to replace them when we do pick up, which is today also.
Rob has to check the lumber situation out, we have another pig starting to fill up so she is going tobe due shortly need to make another slated floor pen.
Suppose to be having my moms camper dropped off today tostore up back for the winter, need to trap that over and get ready for snow.
Stoppping to get all the kids pumpkins today, while we are in the city.
Rob wants breakfast so better get busy, french toast, sausage and home made maply syrup we made earlier this yr.
Every one have a blessed day

Days at Ledge Hill Farm

Well I guess I should say hello and thank you for coming to this site. I was going to write about a typical day on Ledge Hill Farm but came to realize, there really isnt a typical day.Let me introduce us to you.
We are Rob and Donna, we live on a mountain in NH. We have 8.5 acres of land and raise pigs mainly. We do have 4 cows, about 100 rabbits,5 dogs,1 house cat,one house bird,5 children mostly grown and 8.4 grandchildren. We live a very basic simple life, we try to grow everything we use. We hunt, fish, and barter alot. We can, freeze, and dry alot of everything.
Yes there are thing we do day in and day out, but every day has its own twist. Take today for example, got up same time, did same chores, of curse on a farm chores themselves can be an adventure. We got invited to go to an auction of people we know who now retired and are selling and moving to Florida. At farm auction you never know who you will meet, I use to work for a gentleman a few towns over and havent seen him since we have been doing farming full time,, what a wonderful surprise. Got to introduce him to my new husband and they talked for hours like they have known each other years and years. Now we have to go and pick up pumpkins for all the kids and grandchildren. We came home from auction had a hot lunch and Rob is headed out to run the bull dozer, trying very hard to re-arrange dirt, nice way of saying he cleaning up a mess of rocks and dirt that really is in the way.
Laundry day here, it has rained for 4 days straight so laundry needs to be caught up, chilly here, slight breeze, but better clean on line than dirty on my floor.
Noticed today how beautiful the leaves are the bright colors have fially come out, wont be long before we dont have any more with the wind blowing.
It rained really hard last night but warm my gracious it was warm out. At 11pm it was warmer than it has been all week.
Well I suppose I should go supervise the bull dozing.LOL Every job needs a supervizor.
Have a wonderful day and share a smile with some one new, you might be the one to get Blessed.
