Its gorgeous out there. Looking around and seeing all my trees have beautiful greenery on them now. Leaves are unfolding and making a lush canopy.
Was tickled to pieces the other day when a friend stop by and rototilled my garden,,, one happy Simple farm Girl. This weekend will be spent putting in the garden and cleaning up the yard.

Our newest additions come Saturday 4 more piglets to go with the 3 piglets we already have. Another batch of meat birds will be here in two weeks. Smaller batches several times instead of all at once.
Glad to get the farm back up and running and feeling like I am accomplishing something instead of running in circles.. Still want a milk cow.. But will settle for my milk goats right now. Once the real barn is built I will be able to have it filled to the brim with kritters.. One more step in providing my family with home grown meats and vegies from right here on the farm. Praying for an awesome growing year. For kritters and vegies.
Today is busy here on the farm, getting everything done this morning, as I have to work tonight at the race track in Rumney/Wentworth in the kitchen,,,love that job,, so glad my Aunt thought to ask me about it,,
I have Avon to deliver and brochures to get out today also.
Hoping to open the farm stand tomorrow with crafts and baked goodies.

Have an awesome long weekend. Enjoy family and friends,,,BUT PLEASE take a few moments to remember those who gave all..... For that is the true meaning of your long weekend.

God Bless ------stay safe------
It has been a long time since I have taken time to write. Alot has happened over the past year, well 6 months even. My oldest grandson was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. The tumors in his neck are to big for radiation. He starts treatment as soon as he gets all his teeth removed June1st. They are afraid the combo of chemo and infection will kill him. Which of course we are trying to avoid. Prayers are always welcome his name is Damion he is only 20 years old. My son Nick had to have a shunt revision in April, not sure it if its better or worse in some aspects. But on to greater news.. grandchild #12 will be here in 6 weeks, another little girl. so that's exciting.
The farm is alive and kicking. 21 goats, 36 chickens, 8 guinea hens,6 turkeys, 9 pullet chick, 6 meat birds(this batch) 6 bantam hen(now to get a broody one) 5 pigs and 1 horse, rabbits depends on the day right now5 adults,5 babies, (outside) inside, 1 baby rabbit, and 3 guinea pigs, 7 dogs and a house cat,, feel like I am missing some one... Waiting for the temperature to finally stay above freezing so we can plant the gardens,,we had snow last week....
Not sure how the rest of the world is doing but ticks this year are so terrible, we are picking 30 at a time off us never mind the animals. Never have seen them so bad.
But on a good note the sun is shining today, the weather is suppose to be nice. I have to work at the race track tonight cooking. Excited about that. Avon is doing great,,, making more friends one campaign at a time. I do have a E-Store where you can go and check out all the things Avon has, open 24/7 www.youravon.com/dduquette
Avon has changed so much, the product line is awesome, its not just about skin care and make up any more..
Well Off to refill the coffee cup, and get chores done, deliver eggs....
Have a great day..
God Bless...
A beautiful sun rise was enjoyed. The weather is FINALLY warming up and the snow is finally melting.
What a long cold drawn out winter. I didn't think it was ever going to end.
The flower along side the house have peaked thru the ground. Yippee spring..
Water still frozen to the barn,,,but as of yesterday it was at least dripping,,so maybe today will be the day.
Seeds will be started today as spring has arrived, didn't dare to plant them to early, they would be full grown by the time the ground thawed.

Working on the barn today for the little goats, cant wait to bring them home. Anthony is excited to be able to bring his little goats home.
Looking to get the farm back up and farming full time , after the tornado went thru here and tore up the place. Slowly building farm back up.

Excited ,, 75 baby chicks will arrive next Monday. 50 meat breeds and 25 new layers. Be nice to hear the peep peeps again.

Off to plant my rose bushes in just a bit. Have 4 raspberry bushes to plant today also.
Lots of raking and yard pick up to do while the sun is shining.

Have a couple grand children here today for a while so there will be play time also..
A joyous day is about. I have gotten to visit with my daughter, and grand daughter, and my daughter in law. Was so very nice to see them. My Miss Lilianna is so special, such a gorgeous little chatter box.

Chores have been done, it is snowing out again. I think winter has returned to the mountain. The ground is covered again and the driveway is a little slippery.

Just received a phone call about another rabbit, all excited. I just love rabbits. Thinking about time to start breeding the goats. Didn't want babies in cold weather like last year. Thinking about what else we can grow for meat to help with less store purchasing.

I got to sit yesterday for a spell and go through Johnny Seeds from Maine and pick out vegetable seeds for the gardens this year, Quiet time for the simple farm girl. Coffee, seed catalogs, snowy day, does it get any better. Toasty warm and all comfy in the house.

My momma and I have been doing a lot of crocheting and knitting. I came up with my own fingerless mittens. No pattern ,, just stuff all in my head. I enjoyed making them and they take no time. Makes hauling water and chores so much easier, hands stay warm, but can still use fingers. Thinking maybe to do up a bunch to sell , I am sure there are other out there who need warm hands but need the use of their fingers.

I have received an order for donuts today so I ought to do a batch or two this afternoon. Made raised glazed donuts the other day, let me tell ya they weren't pretty but boy did they taste good. Maybe I will try again. A recipe I have never used before.

Having a wonderful time visiting with my Uncle Dave, he has come over for a month or so and staying with us. Some one should write a book with the stories he can tell, my favorite cowboy.
He loves to tell stories and he gathers a crowd where ever he goes. Just awesome.

I suppose I should get busy and get dishes finished up and do some baking. Need to figure out tonight supper. What cha all having?? Do you ever get tired of trying to figure out new stuff? I do..

Well you all have an awesome day. Stay safe stay warm..

God Bless
Its lying, its cold out there.
The sky is bright blue with very few clouds, (that's because the wind blows them away).
All the animals are cuddled up to what ever they can find that holds heat. Yes its cold out there. 22 with wind is cold, I don't care how beautiful the sun looks.

We have been hard at work today, 7 qts of sausage canned, 5 qts of hamburger and so fat 7 qts of nice white lard. There will be more lard coming, I did 12 qts the other day. Stuff makes awesome donuts and nice pie crust.
So thankful the snow hasn't arrived yet and the water line to the barn is still thawed. My day is coming when I awake to inches of snow and a froze line. Which really stinks because we bought a backhoe to do a lot of work and it really hasn't earned its keep yet.

Sold all my rabbits and ducks the other day, at least cutting back for the winter months. With hauling water it makes it quite a chore to keeping bottles thawed and ponds open.

I do still have my wonderful goats and now 22 piglets under 5mos old, I did cut back to a few dozen chickens and will start fresh in the spring with more layer and put these older one in the pot..
Looking out the window at everyone I can see the horses standing tall watching over all the animals.

Hoping to get back to sewing this week. Also dug out the yarn and knitting needles, its that time of the year. I cant work with yarn while its hot out,, makes my hands sweat.

I suppose the canners have been turned off and now the jars are cooling down, I should go make meat balls for supper and get some bread rising.

I hope you have an awesome day.

God Bless
Can you hear my heart jumping for joy. Two years ago in October we were blessed with a blizzard that dumped 2 feet in one storm and melted in a week or so and we had very little the rest of the winter season. Today is raining drizzly day, not much work will be done out side.
Still trying to batten down the hatches so to speak for winter. It has been a beautiful week a few days were up in the 50's.
Yesterday I sold all my rabbits and ducks. Not that I want to but I guess I am getting tired of doing all the chores myself while others just sit and watch or complain about having to pick up a little of the slack. I have an offer on my goats, but am so torn about selling all of them a few of them or none of them. Confused and heart broken to think I always give in and give up on my dreams and animals I want. Sometimes I wonder why I try so hard to make a working farm work. People that live here are mainly concerned with just the horses who do nothing,, very expensive pasture pets.. Don't get me wrong I think the world of the horses but ya know,, they eat hay and grain year round and they don't earn one penny ,, at least not in the past 4 years. My goats have at least have made money this year. Selling the babies then selling 2/3 of my herd brought in more money than the horses have since we have had them in 7 years. I know I sound like I am venting but I cant be the only farmer around that goes thru this. Some one else must be able to relate. Now we have 22 piglets 3 months old and 5 mos old,, . They cost way more money than they will ever bring in. Big idea,, raise them thru the winter and sell then in the spring.. Great Idea,, but I don't see it happening the way some think it is going to,, cause aint no one going to step out and help with chores and help feed, clean and water them all winter but me. Attitude abound today terribly,, so no outside work will be finished at all. I guess I should not be surprised, I don't think one project has really ever been totally finished that others have started around here. Guess I am getting fed up with the work load, stress load and the anger that other bring with them. Not sure how people can go to bed mad, and wake up angry all the time.
So in my mind I have been mulling over some big changes and I am sure some will have their 2 cents to add, but no manual ambition to go with it.
I am going to cut back to just the animals I need to feed my family with, raise just the chickens I need to provide eggs for my family, chickens 4 pigs, I can buy a side of beef every year. Everything else from now on will be gardens for food. I need to change how things work around here, cost fo grain is going thru the roof, money is becoming very tight, property taxes have gone up again, my income hasn't. So I am going to start living as they did on little house on the prairie raising what they needed to eat, sold what was extra,,garden and put up what I can.
Does any one else have any of these issues,, cant be just me.
I suppose its time for me to go set up the sewing machine and start working on one of the quilts I need to finish for another family who ordered it.

I hope you have a blessed Sunday and sorry for the venting,, sometimes just getting it out of my head makes things a bit easier.

God Bless
Ok usually never ready and every year we say the same thing knowing every year at this time it gets colder..
Animals are all getting their winter coats. Leaves are falling off the trees and making the patch work colors that were seen on trees now make the ground a beautiful rust and orange colors. I don't rake leaves,, I think they are beautiful.. Gardens have gone by, all plants are pulled up and vegetables stored, canned, dried and preserved. meat birds have been processed and tomatoes, carrots, eggs have all been canned.
So some things are ready,, wood pile isn't up to quota yet. But husband will bring the next 8 cords shortly. We have plenty of wood for the kitchen cook stove. So no worries.

Looking out my front door the sun is shinning thru the glass casting a warm glow across the floor. All the dogs are struggling to lay in the warmest spot in the sun.

Heading out shortly do chores and check on the new kittens who are residing in the barn.
Hoping to sell a few ducks today and more laying hens.. Cutting back on a few animals for winter, making my chores a bit easier for winter.
My mom has moved in with us and resides in the basement. We have made a small apartment area for her so she has her own space.
We have been doing a lot of baking for the farm stand and it has gone over wonderfully. We are making bread today and I am doing fudge and cup cakes.

I suppose I need to get busy and go wash eggs, do chores, get laundry started for Nicholas and get baking under way.
I hope you al have an awesome weekend

God Bless
I guess. Everyone is always saying TGIF.. But here Friday is just another day. Which is ok, no different than a Monday.

Yesterday was my oldest grandson birthday, he turned 18. I was there when he was born, he took his first steps, kindergarten pictures,, hard to believe 18. I have 10 more coming up behind him. I guess its bitter sweet. His life is what he makes it now,. Love him to pieces. Ok enough sappy stuff.

It has been raining for most of the day. the humidity was so terrible this morning. Not bad right now.
The gardens are being watered and everything is growing. I just wished I could of gotten it all in a month earlier. Hoping with all the work we did something comes of it.

Hay season is getting off to a very rough start middle and ending. More rain than sunny days.
2 of the big pigs leave today for a pig roast tomorrow and next week. That will cut down on the grain bill a little bit. The last 3 will get a bigger pen tomorrow, I will open the 2 pens and make it just one., Charlie the pet pig still hangs with the goats. I have a deposit on 5 more that were born a few weeks ago.

Meat birds will go to freezer camp this week also, 20 in the freezer is better than 20 in the pen eating food.
Layers are starting to come back around the heat last month really did a number on the egg production.

Mike and Bob the horses will come home tomorrow from summer fields for a few weeks to allow it to grow back. It will be nice to see them in the big pasture on the hill standing tall.

Tonight will be filled with a lot of baking. 8 dozen donuts for the church fair. Suppose to be an awesome day so farm stand will have goodies on it also.

Got to take my Aunt and Uncle out today and show them our little town today.
Tomorrow is the local church fair, lots of local crafters will be out displaying their wares.
. I do believe it is time for something warm to drink and getting my hands into some flour of some sort and see what trouble I can get into,

I do hope you have a wonderful weekend

God Bless
<img alt="My Mom made these with every kind of fruit you can imagine. Sometimes we had blueberry, raspberry, or peach... but my favorite was always strawberry. That's what I am featuring today but feel free to change them to what you have on hand.
Strawberry Hand Pies
For the dough:
... 3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 stick (4 oz) butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
3 oz cream cheese, softened
3 tbsp cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the filling:
4 cups strawberries, washed, hulled, and sliced
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/3 cup sugar (or more, to taste)
Baking and Glazing:
1 egg white, lightly beaten
2 tablespoon sugar
1-1/2 cup powdered sugar
3-4 tablespoons milk
Pies: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In the large bowl of a stand mixer, combine the butter and sugar and cream them together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat to combine, then add the cream cheese and vanilla. Beat until everything is incorporated, then scrape down the bottom and sides of the bowl.
Add the flour mixture and beat on low speed until incorporated. Scrape the dough out onto a sheet of cling wrap and wrap it tightly into a flat disc. Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour. (Can be made several days ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator.)
Filling: When you’re almost ready to assemble the pies, place the sliced strawberries in a bowl and sprinkle the cornstarch and sugar over them and stir. Let them sit and get juicy.
When the dough has chilled, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly flour your work surface, then roll the dough out until it is about 1/8” thick. Make sure to lift and rotate it occasionally to make sure it’s not sticking on the bottom. Use a round cutter between 5-6” across to cut out large circles. (You can also trace around a bowl using a paring knife if you don't have a cutter large enough.)
Transfer the circles to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place several spoonfuls of strawberry mixture in the middle of each pie. Fold the dough in half and crimp the edges with a fork to seal them together. If your dough starts to get too soft, refrigerate it briefly until you can work with it again.
Brush the tops of the pies with egg white and a sprinkling of sugar. Use a sharp knife to cut a few holes in the top to allow air to escape. Bake the pies at 375 for 20-25 minutes, until they're golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Glaze: While the pies are cooling, mix together the powdered sugar and milk until you have a glaze that flows but holds its body. Drizzle the cooled pies with the glaze.

The birds are singing praises and so happy its not raining. The sun is trying to break through a thick fog. Looks like a wonderful day is ahead of us.

The farm has a new member. Shirley my little pygmy goat gave birth yesterday afternoon to an adorable baby girl. Colors of white and black poke a dots and brown boots.
Just as precious as the day is long.
I did loose a chicken (meat bird) this morning noticed he had past to a better place,, He got injured a mos or so back so I placed him in his own cage so he could still eat and drink and not struggle. This morning he was called to the bigger chicken coop above.

Charlie the little runt pig I had gotten from an educational farm in April is doing awesome,, he is quite the ham no pun intended. Loves to be scratched and played with. He is a hit of the visits from the campers that stop by.
The other 5 pigs are doing wonderfully and growing super. A few more months and they will go to freezer camp.
I have put a deposit on 5 more piglets to raise thru the winter for spring processing.
Would really like to get a milk cow,, but figure the goats can provide milk also and less space for them to be housed.d
My new bunnies should becoming home soon. I have two liters. One from my female and one from a bred doe I had bought but she was so close to birthing we didn't want to move her. Hoping to find a few meat rabbits to breed. between the chickens and pigs a few rabbits in the freezer would be a nice change. Would love to get out and do some fishing also. The more we can harvest, grow, and can and freeze the better we will be this winter. Now is I could grow salt and coffee.
Hoping next year to get set up with a few hives to have our own honey. One more step in self sufficiency. Taping some maple trees also will help in cutting back on the sugar we use.

This weekend some time we will be putting the last of the meat birds also in freezer camp. they have met their weight requirements and then some. Some have quite the waddle going on.

Since my last post I was given 2 more does. Beautiful 4 year old pygmies. I do believe there are 2 more out there that will give birth this summer.

The garden has finally been completed and is growing. Things will be a little behind everyone else but that's ok as long it provides winter food.

The blueberry field just up the road a piece have now opened. I will visit them often as I would like to make jam and pie filling for winter use.

Speaking of winter July is almost over a few months to get ready. Not in any hurry that's for sure but you can never be to prepared for the winter months on the mountain.

I have decided to clean out the pantry this year and strip it down and start over, somethings have been in there forever it seems. Replacing bags and boxes with canning jars and storage containers is a must.
I have started my winter lists of things to have on hand in case of weather related issues up here. We are due for some terrible weather. its been several years the cycle is coming full circle and we need to be ready. My lists of prepping have begun. I love to gaze at the pantry shelves and know I can provide for my family in case of emergencies and we dont have to run to the store every day for meals. We may not eat fancy but we sure wont starve.

Cant wait for the wood to come in. I know my husband works for a logging company and they have a wood processor,, but I totally love to split wood. Hoping to get some type of wood shed built this year where the whole winters wood wont have to be in the basement. Which is ok if my pantry and washer weren't down there makes walking around tricky. But anyways going to try to talk him to letting me have 1 load in log length so I can work it up. Lord knows I need the exercise. Since haying is becoming more difficult because we cant get 3 days in a row of nice weather to be able to get it cut and baled before the next rain falls.

Well I suppose as the sun shines in on my back I am wasting time and should be getting laundry hung out and floors cleaned.

I pray you have an awesome day

God Bless each of you who read my postings and those who don't also
A heavy dampness fills the air. Rain expected. What a wonderful long weekend. Got to spend the whole weekend with my husband. We took the time to just be together and have decided that one weekend a month will be just us. Not that we don't love having grandchildren around,, just need some us time in the busy schedules of summer.

We bought a new to us back hoe and Rob has been enjoying doing some dirt work here at the farm. He shouldn't have a problem finding things that need work,, the farm is always a work in progress. trying to get hay season started. Need 3 days of nice weather no rain,, no 100% humidity also helps, nice breeze would be a plus.

Going to spend this morning working in the garden. poor thing its hard to put in when your standing in ankle deep mud. Hoping to get more transplanted today so they can get rooted and start producing vegetables.

Meat birds don't have much longer before they go to freezer and canner camp. Some probably should of been killed already but in the heat not happening.

Goats are doing awesome, moved their pen over under the trees they seem to enjoy it there,, lots of shade. Will let them loose for a while today and they can graze. Pigs are growing, 2 will leave next month for a pig roast and the girls will be split between 2 families.
So busy busy busy.

Havent really opened the farm stand yet as it just keeps raining. Hard to keep baked goods fresh and craft items dry.

Meeting tonight at fire dept,, getting things finalized for our 50 years of service celebration. Time is running out to get prep work done. July 20th will be here before we know it.

Have heard from Bucky Lewis he is fitting us in and preforming for us
Music being provided by several different groups and my father inlaw is doing the announcement and music in between groups.
Parade starts at 10, ceremony for charter members at 11, many events demonstrations, lots of food and vendors.

Hoping everyone comes out and joins the fun

I suppose while its not raining I best get out side and get some work done.

Have an awesome day

The dogs are all hiding around the house out away from the sound as if it would hunt them down and get them.
The morning was beautiful here on the farm,, the sun shone and the wind was just a gentle breeze.
i did mange to get floors scrub down pretty well before the rain got here. Now to actually have it dry with the humidity we have.

Guessing a laundry will wait til after the storm passes,, now need to be struck by lighten hanging up under britches.
Trying to figure out what is going to be for supper. Thought tonight would be a great night for fasting,, idea didnt go over well..lol

Many changes on the farm this spring. Many baby goats were born and all but 1 were sold. many adult does have new homes,, everyone is happy happy happy.

Next week is Lilianna birthday already,, a big #2

Almost time to start haying again,,cant wait. I do enjoy haying.

We are raising meat birds this year,, and lots of baby chicks to replace the older laying hens for next year.
One more effort to buy less at the store

Gardens have been an issue with all the rain we have had. Just might get it in these week,, little late is better than never.

Trying my hand at making yogurt this year,, not working so well for me,,, guess i need some one to show me. Better at hands on than just reading.

I suppose i should figure out suppers issue and get busy, looks like my floors have dried enough to walk on.

Have an awesome day
Feeling very happy that the snow has finally stopped. I wish we had last weeks weather.. 32+ degrees for several days can spoil you. Back to the deep freeze this week. Yesterday snow storm of maybe 2 inches,,came in more as almost 6 inches.. You will not see a happy face. That just means more shoveling for me.

Last week our seeds came in from Johnnys seed from Maine. I love them. I actually got them ordered and received them before it was time to plant. So what are you planting this year? I am so jealous of those who are thinking of playing in the soil today. I have to wait several more months.

So hoping the flu that is going around is out of my home.. So far only baby Lilianna was really sick. Few snuffles here and there.. But my baby girl was real sick.

Nick is quite happy to have his practice IPad from ATECH. He has been working hard making sentences to learn to talk. This will be a communication device as his speech is getting tougher for him. Proud how hard he is working on this.

Quiet in the house this morning. I have been up since 2am since Rob needed to leave this morning by 3:30am. Would of been nice to have the log truck home, he wouldnt of had to leave so early. Sitting here yawning wishing the coffee that taste awesome would kick in and wake me up.
Going to be a very long day.

Recipes to go thru to see what will be on the baking list for the day. Someone on my face book posted a picture of a lemon pie yesterday and it made my mouth water just looking at it.. Ever had that happen,,just looking at something makes ya almost be able to taste it.
I do know supper will consist of meat loaf, mash potatoes and gravy. That was suppose to be last night, but I had a meeting so we just had subs..

Watching the goats close. My Hemmi is acting uncomfortable. Thinking she will be having twins. This will be her first births.
Next month will be a busy one. Abby and Daisy will be giving birth. After that the rest will be March and April. Shirley had Puddin a month ago already.. He is such a riot to watch. Be glad when there a a few more for him to play with.
Should be getting our piglets this week. Nick has been asking to have a piglets he can raise, so we needed to get two. They are such social animals,, they need to have a buddy.

Alot of changes coming to the farm this year. More chickens and poultry and pigs.
Also considering a rustic camp ground. We are pondering putting a few small building up in the back pasture, no power, or running water,,pure off the grid. It would be like camping with a tent but only have a solid building. Water would be available on the trailer lot and bath house built. Something we are considering.

So what are you doing differently this year on your farm. Are you planting this year things you have never tried? Have you added a new animal, or learned a new skill? Share it with me. I know there are several things I want to learn. Spinning, out door cooking, would love an outside oven. Want a treddle sewing machine so badly.

Well I guess I have bored you enough for one day. I hope you have an awesome year.

God Bless from the simple farm girl
Yes we are all still kicking here.. I know it has been along time since I have posted here. Computer issues,, life issues and farming in general has kept me busy.

We are already in to the first mos of fall. our leaves have changed and many have fallen to the ground. hay season went well. We will find ourselves still buying hay again this year
.
Many changes have taken place this year. We sold all the cows and bulls this year and bought a herd of goats, all does. Many dairy breeds. The pygmies will help with the babies for the petting farm next year.

I have been working on another farm stand this past summer and acquired some awesome information on milking and making cheeses and yogurt from goats milk. Amazed at the number of people wanting goat cheese. never knew there was a calling for it. The goats also will be easier keepers than the cows. I was devastated in march when I lost my milking cow and her calves she was carrying. That was a hard blow to the farm,, loss of meat , milk and babies.

So turning my attention to chickens, eggs, and goats and their products. should be a big learning experience.

Rob has been out of work now for over a month due to a medical issue and by the looks from talking to the doctors last week, he wont be allowed back to work until the new year and thats a maybe. This was a surprise and not one we counted on. But I have faith my God is bigger than any problem that will fall our way. We are learning just what can be done when we set our minds to it. It has been nice having him home to get things done we wouldnt have time for normally. But I know he wants to get back to work as I want him to also.. Happy husband means the rest are happy.

Once everyone is up and about we need to talk about going to the top pasture and hauling down the trees that have been cut now for awhile. By him not working the wood situation is getting slim. But there is plenty cut down as we were clearing the pasture now for a few years. It will burn nicely in the kitchen cook stove. If the baby isnt in the basement this winter we wont need to burn the furnace all the time and that will save on alot of wood. Have told Samantha she does need to find a place for her and Lilianna before winter, It will be better for the baby to have a bigger place to run around and safer. Now she is up walking around,, terribly afraid of her getting hurt, falling down the stairs and such.

I suppose I should start making breakfast ,, the smell of food cooking might get Rob and Nick up and get things moving for the day. I know Rob is tired,, he doesnt sleep well but hopefully with a cpap machine soon that will all change.

I am praying you all have a wonderfully Blessed day

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16840770958661571065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7277403119005821124.post-64641948502782656972012-05-11T14:51:00.000-04:002012-05-11T14:57:24.661-04:00May 11,2012--- such a chilly dayIts amazing to me how one month can be so chilly but the months of winter we had were actually warm. In March this yr we had beautiful 70-90 degrees some day and today is down right chilly at 43. It has rained here it seems most of this month already. Its going to take a good solid week of warm sun shine to dry everything out so I can continue planting. I have several gardens to start but dont dare to get into them until it starts to stay warm. Been working on getting the farm stand going ad repaired and going for this year. But rain has stopped us from being open a few days.. Since our stand is your basic no frills stand. Someday would like a more solid building,, but that will also add to the property taxes, which are already high enough. With all the rain all the green leaves have budded out and started to unfold. All trees and plants are starting to look alive, which is a nice sight.

Two days ago we were blessed with a new liter of bunnies. All the baby chicks are growing awesome. The first batch are almost 2 mos old. Looking awesome. Next 4 are a week old they are sweet. New batch is in the incubator going to be hatching in about 2 week. We go pick up the new big incubator next weekend,, right now 40 more baby chicks have hatched.
Still waiting for Lucy the cow and all the goats to kid,, I really dont think Mack did his job with the goats. I might have to borrow a little buck and have them bred.

Today the wind is blowing and the sun is out but it is not warm. Cant wait for everything to dry out.

Have a pile of manure to move this weekend.. Always fun fun fun stuff on the farm.

I hope you all have an awesome weekend.
I am not very smart on this computer,,and i thinkit knows it. Been having a dicken of a time getting logged and be able to post. Lots has happen since February some good some not so good.
No new babies as of yet, well not born here anyways, we do have baby chicks. My big ole milk cow died on me on March 22,2012.... One of the hardest weeks ever. Dot would of been 7 in June and she was due to calves shortly. My heart broke so deep. She was my very first calf born on my farm and the last animal thats was here from my old farm. Sometimes I can be so attached to my animals more than real people. They are always here to listen and not that they talk back so we understand them per say,, but they listen ,, they dont judge. and are always happy to see you each day. Broke my heart to bury her, considering I lost her from meat and the calf she was carrying. Thats a big lose to a small family farm.
I do have to thank a very special man for coming to my rescue and helping me bury her,, he is a sweet man. Thank you forever, Robbie. You stepped in when no one else would. I will also remember that.

The weather here has been strange, we barley had any snow all winter, and hardly no rain. Hoping for a nice summer and great haying weather.
Its almost garden time here. I had made several gardens over the weekend,, mostly flower ones to help bring in the bees and butterflies possibly a humming bird or two. Having no tractor with a bucket it sure does make garden making a task. Everything by hand really just wanted to pop in and say hello and let you know we are all still hanging in there. I hope your weather is spring like not winter like as mine is,
God BlessAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16840770958661571065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7277403119005821124.post-18327795945772778032012-02-28T08:06:00.001-05:002012-02-28T08:06:51.408-05:00February 28,2012---- Winter has returnedGood Morning from the mountain. I do believe winter either has finally decided to come to NH or its making its return from last Oct when we had a Nor Easter. Looking out my window this morning we are being Blessed with more white stuff. I do believe mother nature is confused in her winter/spring time calendar. Last week we received 8 plus inches and now we are looking at more today and Thursday.. Hello Momma Nature its almost spring time,, the roads are already thawing and mud is already formed on alot of dirt roads, so plowing isnt going to happen unless we received a hard freeze again.
Most of us are already having babies born and chicks hatching. Thoughts of garden plots dance in our heads. Last week I had bare ground and split wood in a t-shirt..
I personally cant wait to have bare feet and garden dirt under my nails. The smells of fresh cut hay will be welcome. I cant wait to turn everyone out to the pasture and watch them kick up their heels and prance around. The smells of lilac trees,,, awh a deep breath,,, can ya smell them.
Lots to do today, its February vacation here and I have 5 grandchildren. They all want to go out side today, but the wind needs to die down just a little bit. Yesterday they worked on a sledding hill and want to finish it today.
I the some baking will also be in order as snack went fast yesterday. So maybe some brownies or even a cake will have to be made today. Anthony has already put his request in for raviolis this morning,, thinking more for lunch instead,, cereal, and toast will keep them busy for a minute.
Noticing the sun is trying so hard to shine and warm things up,, but the wind sure does take the heat away from the sun.

I have been working on alot of crocheting this past months, while the weather is cooler. I have a hard time working with yarn when my hands sweat. Trying to make afghans and earn enough money to pay off a years worth of property taxes by May. Winter time is a slower time of year so it gives me a chance to do some hand work and quilting. Making new clothes for the spring and summer. Would love to create my petticoats and little britches collections.. I have it all in my head,, now to put in on paper and fabric. Someday in my free time. Its a dream i have had, to make children wearable clothes that will last and hold up to children playing outside. Little girls in prairie dress and boy in pants and shirt, vest,, kind of ole fashion I know but do able. Well I suppose I need to get back to reality and get these child fed and happy.
You all have an awesome day and be Blessed in what ever you do
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16840770958661571065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7277403119005821124.post-87662412691772865972011-08-08T06:42:00.000-04:002011-08-08T06:42:12.021-04:00August 8th 2011Good Morning from the farm. August is racing by already. Today is my oldest grandchilds birthday. Happy Birthday Damion, I hope you have an awesome 16th birthday.
By the looks of my last post which was in May, I have a new grand daughter. Lilianna Marie was born June 28,2011. She arrived at 8 minutes to 1pm. She is beautiful, dark eyes and hair, she makes my 7th granddaughter and 11th grandchild. Anthony thinks she is just the best. He cant say his (L's) yet and calls her Widdie. He loves to what he calls pet her,, he stand up next to her bassinet and say I need to pet Widdie. He is very gentle with her for the most part.

A content and relief feeling this morning as I look out the front window. Rob unloaded the winters fire wood yesterday. It is still in log length but it is here. I will start working it up soon. Waiting for the rain to gives us a little break, not that we dont need it, but I need to be able to get my haying done. If we can get a good week in we can finish the big field we are at and move back local. Getting the hay done also give a feeling of security, knowing i wont be hay hunting in March and April will be great.
The garden is growing and so are the weeds. I havent been there in over a week and need to go hopefully today. Between haying and the rain, its been a little tough, last time I had went I had Lily. Need to remember the stroller.
The farm stand is doing great, lots of veggies and craft and baked goods. Of course with the high heat the past month, baked goods have been limited. Did add a new flannel baby quilt yesterday. There are a couple new prairie bonnets now also. Surprised how great the plastic bag holders are selling, I just call them bag sleeves, to me they look like a sleeve. We have rag wreaths and soups in a jar, laundry soap. what ever veggies are ready, eggs, blueberries are froze at the house.
Hopefully today I will get the small frig set up in the barn, there will be a notice stating that where the eggs will be.
Speaking about frigs, what a month, my frig that isnt even 10 yrs old has finally just stopped, had the repair man here and he said it isnt circulation right,so the air isnt getting from the freezer to the frig. Had a friend have a extra one and was able to get it yesterday. Friends are blessings. Today I have to take the old one to the junk yard and clean up the house. Had to move furniture around to get the new one in and the old one out.
Was nice to get the deck and front and side of the deck cleaned off. Also cleared out the bushes and junk and set up the new dog kennel. Of course the dogs dont like the kennel, but it is needed so they stop running off.

Had visitors to the farm Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday a young couple stopped at farm stand and notice we had goats and got so excited. They played with the goats and even tried to milk one of them.

The weather here has been terrible humid. I can do heat, but humidity makes breathing rough.
Well I suppose I need to get busy. Need to clean the house today, do to the dump and junk yard, make more laundry soap and get the rest of the laundry done.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and get a minute to stop and enjoy your day

God Bless
It has been a very emotional few weeks here. 2 friends have died. a week apart. One sadly took his own life, which is heart breaking in its self and the 2nd died while working and happen to be the uncle to the first man. Family has had enough tragedy. The funeral and service were yesterday for Milton, he left behind 5 kids and a g/f of 21 yrs, and several grandchildren who when it all settles down will miss him terribly. My prayers go out to my friend Alice and her family. May Gods comfort find you and help you thru this terrible time.

Our snow is finally gone. babies have been born. With all the hectic in the past few weeks I forgot when I posted last. Anyways if this is a repeat, I am sorry. We have a new calf name Knickers born on the 14th.
Several of my pygmy does are due right off soon. I know Molly is due around the 22nd and the other 2 will follow shortly after. I am going to be totally amazed if she only has one, twins anyways I bet. I totally enjoy my goats, They give me a peace and calming feeling watching. Now the weather is getting warmer in the morning and the snow has finally gone, I enjoy sitting early in the morning while the first wake up and watch the prancing and twisting. My rooster have been hard at work already this morning, trying to wake everyone since before 4am. Dont think they are having good luck since they seem to be the only ones up.

Few more weeks and I will be able to put them in the pasture, the grass is finally starting to grow. Its way to wet up there right now. So today I need to find some hay. Our last round bale will be finished today. I will enjoy the warmer weather thats for sure when everyone can run around and be up in the pasture.

Guess its time for me to start my plants so they will be ready to put in the ground in 4-5 weeks. I always started to in February before and always had such funky looking plants and up here we are lucky to plant before Memorial day anyways. With the prices of everything going sky high we have to plant more and be aware of what we plant. More direct choices for the family not just things to put on the farm stand. I need to go up back and dig out alot of my 5 gallons buckets , some thing will be plants in them.

Today a lady is suppose to come and buy Andy my toggenburg wether, she is looking for a companion for her pony. Andy should fit the bill. He is getting very pushy with the pregnant does lately and needs to go some where that he will be able to be top goat. I will miss him but in a way it will be a good miss. She is also trading me Deanna for a Nigerian dwarf doe, she is in need of a milking goat and Deanna is Alpine. Makes me feel better they are going to the same farm. I need to concentrate just on my milking herd now and my little ones to sell. Main streaming the farm. No more just pets. Cant afford the grain and hay. Another way i need to just get back to basics.
The gas prices here have hit 4.00 a gallon. I dont leave the farm if I dont have to, and there better be more than one reason to leave.
The cost of things I need to buy to make living simpler is getting so expensive. I cant grow flour here and even the store brands are climbing in price I have seen a big jump in sugar and flour in less than a year. There are something we just cant grow and need to be able to buy. so every time there is a sale on baking supplies I stock up. Some days we will have our own bees and be able to do maple syrup again and that will cut our sugar cost down. Rob and I both stopped using sugar in our coffee yrs ago. Two of my kids drink coffee but its more like sugar with coffee side dressing.

I suppose I need to get busy and go out and haul some more wood in the dawn has finally arrived here on the mountain and animals will be wondering where their breakfast is also.
With rain cmong for the next 4 days i want to make sure all laundry is in, and we have some extra wood in side to take the damp chill off.
terrible, May and still burning wood for heat not just cooking. As soom as the pasture dries out i can take the goats up in the morning and start picking up alot of down trees from the winter and haul them down to burn instead of hitting the wood pile. Plus it will clean up the pasture. We went thru alot of wood this year. Hoping we will get the rest of the insulation in the walls that we are replacing and put the pine boards up that should cut down on alot of heat loss.

I pray you all have a wonderful week. trying to get back in the routine of writting in the mornings before everyone else gets up, but sometimes my body is up but my mind is still snuggling in the warm bed. LOL
Have a wonderful day

God Bless
Cardigan. What a glorious day this is. The sun is already showing its splendor and warmth. Chances of showers later but for now its great. I just enjoyed my first coffee of the day sitting on the porch. Hair a mess, flannel jammies and barefoot. What better way to enjoy a country morning with a hot coffee and kritters abound. The day its its natural beauty.
The kritters are out and about. I just enjoy watching them first thing in the morning as they wake up to a new day. The energy the kids have and how they twist and prance around. As if that chunk of wood or bucket was put right there for them to play on. Natures play ground.
The new roosters are announcing to the whole yard its time to get up sleepy heads. Stop wasting such a wonderful day. I have missed having no roosters. Am blessed to have 5 now. Its funny to hear the difference in the crowing, from the little tiny bantams just learning to crow to the big boy who struts around like this is his barn yard.
Sitting on the porch I was greeted by several different cats who had to wish a good morning to Amelia and Uma and Ralphy (who doesn't come to close but still comes with the girls), and Abby and Blackie. My heart goes out to Bobby and Onyx as their momma went to visit another farm yesterday to help with milk for a need kid. They are prancing around crying for her til something else catches their eye to go and be involved in.
Looking at Miss Abby, she needs to be milked today and what better day to start. Its nice out and it will give us time together.
Watching all the chickens just out and about this morning , love the scratching and pecking they do, looking for that special treat. Right now Bobby the little goat is trying to drink from the water tub, guess i better fill a shorter one today also the little guys are having a hard time reaching the water once it goes down a little bit, and they need all the water they can get now momma isn't here.
Can see Dot and Lucy this morning now, Dot still hasn't had her calf, my luck she will wait til it starts raining. She is showing all signs of being due any day. I am sure Lucy wont be far behind her.

More yard work to do today. More laundry to hang on the line. Opening up the house again once its a little bit warmer outside. Letting the fresh air in and kicking this cold, flu nasty bug out of this house. It was nice to have the new air yesterday. Have to get the rest of the baby gate from down by the rabbit pens to block off the doors so the goats don't come in, but the doors can be opened.
Looking out towards the goat barn I see all the goats who are in the barn are waiting for the door to be opened, surprised Andy hasn't banged it enough times to open it.
Moving rabbits outside today also. Getting as many animals outside as possible so I can clean the basement out. Good place for the bowflex to go and I can have my living room back.

Sitting here waiting for the bacon to finish defrosting making bacon and eggs for breakfast, toast and coffee. Rob is waiting for me to get done typing so he can go thru craiglist and see what wonderful special might be out there today.

I hope you get a chance to go out and enjoy the day.

God Bless
Of course to look at our yard you would think we were still having winter.
So much has happened since my last post. And I am sorry for not posting more often, which I am trying to fix.
Several more animals have been born and lots more have made Ledge Hill Farm their homes. Just last weekend we went to pick up 5 more goats, 3 Nubian does and 1 sannan buck and 1 wether.Cant remember if I posted about Ralphy or not, Ralphy is our ram.Not the most friendliest, not mean, just not sociable. Added to the herd are Lilly,Annie,Naomi the does,JJ and Nibble the sannans. If things work right I am borrowing a Nubian buck this week to breed the new does with. At the same time Brownie will going to a new farm to breed another doe there.

We do have bright sun today which in its self is a Blessing. Everyone here has been so sick with this nasty flu that just wont seem to leave us alone.Hoping this weekend to open up the house and kick the flu bug to the curb.Nicholas is home today sick, and he even asked to stay home so ya know he is sick.

Next month will be exciting around here and very busy as 3 more goats should deliver all the little Pygmy are due in May and both cows are starting to fill up. Dot will be milked once she has her calf. Wont try milking Lucy, she isn't the friendlies sort, not being hand raised but raised in the pasture she will be 2 in July and only now will let me at least scratch her head. Would like to see other round of one each heifer and bull. Since Jacob will go in freezer this fall,a new bull will go in in 2 yrs..

Have new roosters now so fertile eggs can be had. Hoping some of my bantams might set on some would love to have babies instead of buying them.
Head out today to get the rest of the things I need to start my plants for the garden. I usually start them in March but our ground is still covered in snow and it will be a good month before all the frost is out of the ground if not longer.
Unless I do alot of raised beds, tilling wont happen til very late May early June.
Bought a couple blueberry bush a couple weeks ago if they dont find a bucket soon the dog and cats will have them dead.

Well I suppose the sun is out and everythign is warming up nicely, I should get busy and get off the computer. Theres always laundry and 1000's of other things that require my attention, and now that I have been sick for 3 days theres even more to do.
I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day.

God Bless
We are a step closer to spring. Can you hear the spring in my step and the giggle in my voice? Today the sun shone wonderfully. An amazing little boy blessed me with the wonder and amazement on how children see things. Anthony and I cleaned the big bathroom and the sun shine was brightly glaring across the bathroom floor. That little boy was glued looking the reflection of the window and sun coming thru the window., Every couple minutes he came and took me by the hand and said the sun the sun. It nice gramma, its nice . Tonight he kept taking my hand and standing just where the window reflection was saying be nice come back sun be nice. Precious. He is such a precious little boy. I totally enjoy my days with him.

The sun was beautiful today, I got alot done inside, didnt spend any time outside. Hoping to finish making napkins tomorrow, need to wash them and iron them.
Had a gentleman come today to give me a second bid on a remodel job on Nicks bathroom, lots of work to make it handicapp accessible.

Was blessed today with the gift of a ram, and a pack goat, they will arrive Thursday.
Hoping to start milking Daisy and Abby this week. Need to get a milking stand made. Since neither have been milked before it should be easier with a stand. Cant wait to learn the soap recipes,,my poor fingers are so cracked.

Tomorrow if nice I need to shovel out the wood splitter, I really was hoping Rob would of plowed it witht he bull dozer today but I guess he forgot. Pray for warm weather tomorrow, so Anthony can play outside with me while I split.

Not alot going on now waiting for Pk to pick up the girls so I can go to bed. early morning. 4am gets here way to soon sometimes.
But anyways i pray you all have a great night

God Bless
DonnaAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16840770958661571065noreply@blogger.com0
